Playhouse Day Nursery takes care to treat each individual as a person in their own right, with equal rights and responsibilities to any other individual of a similar age. No one should be disadvantaged due to sex, race, religion, colour, creed, ethnic or national origin, political belief, special educational need, disability, class, or family circumstances.
We have regard to the Disability Discrimination Act (D.D.A.) and follow their guidelines on equality.
A practical implication of this policy is that children of both sexes are positively encouraged to participate in all activities, toys and games.
We have a positive approach to behaviour and clear strategies for dealing with discriminatory practices (e.g. bullying and name calling.)
We are committed to parental partnership, developing mutual trust and respect, for the development of the children’s values and effective learning. Liaison between wider agencies is established and promoted.
We aim to include and accommodate the individual needs of children with special needs or disabilities to enrich the provision for all the children, to build friendships, respect and understanding (there is wheelchair access to the downstairs area of the nursery).
As the proprietors are Christians, there will naturally be a Christian influence in this establishment. Grace is said at meals, Bible stories are included in our library, and Christian moral codes are actively taught. Children are encouraged to be honest, caring, peacemaking and to think of the needs of others. This is not discrimination. Participation from varying religions and cultures is most welcome and can only enrich our children’s experience of life.
