It is the policy of Playhouse that medicines will normally only be given to a child that has had them prescribed by their medical practitioner. If a prescribed medicine or medication is required to be given or applied the parent must give written permission by filling in and signing one of our medication forms.
Where non prescription, creams, ointments, gels (e.g. teething gel etc.) are provided by parents, it will be deemed that in providing them, the parents are giving permission for their use. Such medications should be named clearly and used for that child exclusively. The greatest care will be taken to see they are administered according to the instructions and a signed record of all medications administered shall be made on a medication form and witnessed by another member of staff.
When a child attending Playhouse becomes unwell, it is our usual practice to contact the parent/carer and discuss the situation. Should they request the administration of medication to minimise the child’s distress as an interim measure and the medication is available, then staff will administer it making the necessary entries on a medication form.
Parents are required to give their permission for staff to administer medication in line with this policy, when signing the childcare agreement.
Playhouse does not take responsibility for applying sun cream.
